Figueiredo vs Garbrandt Announced for UFC 255

The UFC flyweight title is back on the line.

After beating Joseph Benevidez in dominant fashion, the name Deiveson Figueriedo (19-1) was beamed through households all over the world. The new Flyweight King had been crowned. A finisher, with a fighting style as furious as his hair had beaten everyone infront of him, and now fan favourite Joe B.

Cody Garbrandt (12-3), up at 135lb exploded back onto the scene with a viscous knockout of Raphael Assuncao. Handing the Brazilian only his second KO of his career. It seemed as though Cody had begun the rebuild of his run to the title. Primed and ready for a big fight against a Sandhagen, Moraes, Sterling or even the Champion, Petr Yan.

However, rumblings began of his wanting to drop to 125lb and challenge for the title there, and the UFC were interested. The news broke on ESPN August 7th from report Brett Okamoto. This will be Cody’s first title fight since the loss to T.J Dillashaw. Interestingly, he is following the same path as his advisory and previous teammate in dropping a weight class to challenge for the title there. Ex-Champion Garbrandt does not seem to think weight will be an issue, but speculation will be high on both men. The Champion having missed weight for his first chance to win the title in February 2020. Cody, will drop to 125 for the first time in his attempt to claim the belt.

UFC 255 will also feature 125lb giant Valentina Shevchenko in her 4th title defence against rising star, Jennifer Maia.
