The sport has evolved rapidly over the last few years and the growth is increasing exponentially with each passing year. As the sport grows in popularity, so does the market for MMA based gear. Tons of companies have risen with MMA to produce top quality gear but there are also plenty of fly-by-night operations that only seek to make a quick buck from newbies with their shoddy gear who don’t know any better. As I said, it can be hard to sort the wheat and the chaff.

But with a company like Venum, you know that you’re getting a good deal. You know that whatever product you buy from them is going to be top quality; not something that’s going to break and fall apart as soon as you get out of the bag or box.

First up on our list are the Contender gloves from Venum. These are the more entry-level gloves, perfect for those who are brand new to boxing, MMA and Muay Thai or for those who just want a cheap yet good extra pair of gloves. Despite their entry-level price point, people of all levels and abilities will appreciate and enjoy the Contenders.

This glove is an all-rounder too; you can use it in every part of training. You can wail on the heavy bag with it, hit pads with your trainer and even go toe-to-toe in the ring in both sparring and competition. The compact padding of the glove means you can even use comfortably in full MMA sparring and circuit training without the glove getting in the way and feeling like a hindrance.

Despite the glove being relatively small and compact, the padding provides more than adequate protection for both your hands/wrists and your opponents face.

These gloves are available in sizes starting from 8 ounce and going all the way up to 16 ounces. As these are boxing gloves and as most gyms prefer their students to spar with 16 ounces as a minimum, it’s best to just go with the larger size unless you have particularly small hands or are buying these gloves for a specific, non-sparring purpose.

Once you’ve picked your size, Venum have then given you 15 different colour/style options to choose from with a wide variety of colours to suit everybody’s particular ideals.

If you have big hands or you have heavy hands (meaning you naturally punch heavy and hard) then sparring can sometimes be tough for you. You’re constantly having to pull your punches and ease up so as not to hurt or knock out your opponent. If you have big hands then it can also sometimes be tough to find a pair of gloves that fit without choking your hands, especially when wearing hand wraps.

If you are one of the above people, then Venum have done you a solid by releasing these Giant 3.0 gloves. As the name suggests, the Giant gloves are perfect for the bigger handed student, with ample room inside even when you’re wearing bulky hand-wraps. The Giant name also refers to the extra padding and size on the outside, allow more cushion to your strikes so you don’t accidentally hurt your training partners.

The Giant 3.0 is the third iteration of their gloves. Venum always take their best, highest-selling glove and reverse engineer just exactly what made it so successful. They listen to their customers in regards to works well with the glove and what needed help so that they can fine tune it to make each glove better and better. The 3.0 offers superior comfort for both striker and opponent, as well as including even higher quality leather on the exterior of the glove to weather heavy use and impact. No ripping, tearing or fraying here.

The Sharp model is one of Venum’s higher quality gloves. All of their gloves are absolutely fantastic, but Venum have truly gone above and beyond with the Sharp.

The exterior of the glove is the highest quality Nappa leather, which offers unparalleled fighting sensation and long-lasting durability. It feels smooth and supple to the touch but with that added toughness you need beneath it. If you like your rough and tough gym wars, then this glove is the one for you. It also features a breathable interior palm mesh for optimal moisture management; not like your usual boxing glove that clogs up with horrid, uncomfortable sweat when you’re deep into a sparring session.

The thumb is fully-attached with strengthened seams to prevent any twisting or possible thumb injuries as well as to improve the structural integrity of the entire glove itself. This also allows for a more natural, comfortable hand/thumb position so the glove feels generally more pleasant to wear as well as keeping safer and helping to prevent possible injury.

Their is more than adequate wrist support to keep everything tight and secure to prevent injury and to keep the glove comfortable in place when using it. There’s nothing more annoying than a glove that is slipping and sliding and you have to constantly halt your training to readjust it. The large Velcro strap also ensures that once the glove is on and in place, it’s done. It’s only coming off when you are ready for it come off. Another handy detail is that the strap can be fastened and unfastened whilst wearing the other glove, no need for assistance from anyone else.
