Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Valasquez has been arrested for attempted first-degree murder after he opened fire on a truck of a man accused of molesting his child.
The incident happened on Monday 1st March when Valasquez engaged in an 11-mile high-speed chase with 43-year-old Harry Eugene Goularte, a man who had been charged with molestation this month and was subsequently released in Santa Clara County California.
Valasquez allegedly chased Goularte 11 miles through San-Jose, California, where he then rammed his truck into the plaintiff’s truck and opened fire on him with a .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol, which was found at the scene along with two 10-round magazines, with a total of 8 rounds missing, likely discharged. Goularte’s 63-year-old stepfather was hit and wounded by the gunfire.
Valasquez was stopped by the police after he allegedly left the scene and was arrested without resistance.
Goularte has been accused by Valasquez’s family of molesting Cain’s daughter “100 times” at a daycare facility owned by his mother, where Goularte lived but did not work. Goularte has denied the allegations to the police but was later charged with a lewd of lascivious actor upon a child under the age of 14 after investigators interviewed the alleged victim.
Support From the MMA Community
Since the arrest, there has been a high outpour of support from the MMA community. Many high-profile stars in the sport have supported Valaquez’s actions, including Joe Rogan and Colby Covington.
“That is a sickness,” Rogan said of the allegations against Goularte on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience with former Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping. “There’s like a certain sickness that people have, that human beings have, sicknesses of the mind. But that one, molesting a f*cking baby? A four-year-old is like a baby. The molesting children is the sickest of all of those sicknesses.”
“It’s beyond sick,” Bisping replied. “That guy deserves everything what Cain did. Well, Cain actually got his father, didn’t he? Not the guy himself, sadly.”
“I mean, my only wish is that he did it with his hands,” Rogan said. “My only wish is that he just ran the car off the road, pulled that guy out of the f*cking car, and beat him to death. F*ck you.”
“And even that would have been too good for him,” Bisping added.
During the press conference after his win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272, Colby Covington interrupted his post-fight interview to talk about the former UFC heavyweight champion.
“Let’s talk about Cain Velasquez,” Colby interrupted. “Free Cain, man. What he did, a lot of people wouldn’t have done the same thing, but I respect the s*** out of him. I mean, having your kid be molested, we talk about that all the time, that we would do [what Velasquez did]. But he was in that situation, and he actually did it. So free Cain, much respect and love, and I hope you get out soon.”
Derek Brunson has also taken it upon himself to help support Velaquez and his family’s legal fees. Brunson raised $10,000 through sales of “Free Cain Velasquez” shirts available through his website where 50% of the proceeds would be donated.
Velasquez is currently in custody at the Santa Clary County Jail where he is currently awaiting arrangements where the judge will determine bail. If convicted Cain Velasquez would face a minimum of 20 years in prison, as well as additional time if found guilty of other charges.
